Britain cannot escape a shortage of key minerals

Secure supplies of metals critical to the energy transition have become more important in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, not only to reduce exposure to high and volatile fossil fuel prices, but also to reduce dependence on countries such as China and Russia. For the UK, avoiding shortages of these raw materials will not rely solely on boosting domestic mining activity, as a new critical minerals strategy suggests.
