Tesla has invited home users of Powerwall to participate in its Virtual power plant (VPP) in California. The company's stationary battery products put it in a good position to develop VPP technology, which is becoming increasingly popular in the United States.
The action is part of Pacific Gas and Electric's emergency load reduction plan. The plan helps avoid blackouts during the summer peak season. The plan pays customers $2 per kWh for the electricity they supply to the grid, more than seven times the $0.27 per kWh that a home gets for photovoltaic power.
